After being a devoted parrot fan all my life, the last year and a half has made me develop this thing for pigeons as well. Okay, birds in general, they fascinate me. I don’t really know why. It’s not because they can fly and motivate me to do so and the usual philosophy that goes with it. Nah! I guess it has something to do with their eyes: so beautiful and deep. Sometimes, I have tried to understand what my parrot is thinking (now let’s not get into the “can birds think?” debate) by looking at his eyes and more often than not, I am tempted to believe that if at all they could think for real, I would have been right. Oh, and the way birds sleep! I think that’s the most peaceful and comfortable I have ever seen anyone/anything be. Also, isn't it amazing how they can balance themselves on one of those tiny feet for so long!
Coming back to Mumbai, pigeons are a constant companion here. Whether it is the Gateway of India, Chowpatty Beach or one of the oldest landmarks of Kabutar Khana in Dadar, pigeons are known for finding their own favorite spot in the city, irrespective of the crowd.
Every time I look out of my window, no matter what time of the day it is, I am always peered at by the inquisitive eyes of a pigeon. Once, a pigeon had laid eggs and nurtured 4 young ones in one of our bathrooms, before finally leaving it in less than hygienic conditions for our use. Nevertheless, I guess once you have seen the little heads break open the egg shells and slowly spring to life and flap those wings, it is only impossible to not develop a strange bond with them.
Okay before you think I am a weird bird fanatic, I am going to leave you with a few pigeon pictures I clicked...
| Doesn't it look like it's deep in thoughts? :O |

| What a cutie! |
